For a few days now, a rumor has been spreading about an alleged Nike x Louis Vuitton collaboration. At first sight absurd, this capsule could become a reality.
We were in a similar situation to the announcement of the Chanel x Adidas collaboration on the NMD Human Race, so we should not discard the hypothesis directly. In recent years, Nike has repeatedly collaborated with high-end brands: Comme des Garçons, Sacai, Fragment Design, Fear of God, Heron Preston or Off-White, it would therefore only be logical to associate with a historical fashion designer. Moreover, luxury has now this denomination only because of its service and its price range, the collections and inspirations are now in an assumed streetwear, perfectly represented by Nike.
Louis Vuitton’s artistic director is Virgil Abloh, who has become popular with Nike and its collection The Ten, so he has the necessary contacts on both sides to bring this collaboration to life. His position as AD in the luxury house will not last, Virgil should develop his own brand like Raf Simons for Dior or Tom Ford for Gucci, and such a partnership can anchor the designer in the history of the house, in the same way as Kim Jones’ Supreme x LV.
Time will tell us if a Nike x Louis Vuitton collaboration will become a reality, or remain at the hype’s utopian stage.
