Takashi Murakami and Pharrell Williams have always been very close and one of their common works is about to be put up for sale at Christies.
Entitled “The Simple Things”, this 2009 work represents the most important objects of Pharrell Williams’ daily life. Bottle of Pepsi, Ketchup Heinz or BBC sneaker, all these objects are placed in the mouth of an imposing Mr DOB. In total, these objects are set with 26,000 diamonds from Jacob & Co, taking them to a whole new level with diamonds illuminated by 14 spots spread throughout the Mr Dob. The curator of the exhibition explains as follows:
A diamond Pepsi can attracts our attention in a different way. This forces us to reconsider the value of everyday objects.
Takashi Murakami is currently one of the most sought-after artists in the contemporary art market, and his association with Pharrell risks exploding its selling price. This work “The Simple Things” will be on sale on November 23rd at Christies in Hong Kong. Experts estimate it at $3.8 million.
