Each Chinese New Year corresponds to an animal, 2019 embodies the pig and Vans x Purlicue celebrate this mammal and its questionable image, here sublimated
Indeed, although a majority of the population has been in 2019 for less than a month, China will celebrate this new year on February 5, 2019. On this occasion Vans collaborated with the Chinese label Purlicue on four silhouettes: an Old Skool, an Authentic and two SK8-Hi. 2 patterns of colours are recurrent between the models: black and pink as well as red and white, evoking the pig in its natural state, but also its transformation into meat. Other details that make the capsule unique, certain elements such as the logo strip, the back label, the sole and the laces have been enlarged to stay within the pig’s “fat” theme. Although this is the first collaboration between the two protagonists, Purlicue is no stranger to the skate brand by having fun creating a silhouette that is reminiscent of the Old Skool while praising the rip-off side of the thing.
This Vans x Purlicue “The Fat Year” collection is available at several retailers including Suppa for an average price of 100 €.
